For each weekday throughout December, Doc Rotten will be looking back at 2010 examining 20 Movie Monsters of the year. Check back each day and rate how successful the monster worked on the big screen, DVD or BluRay. On December 31, we'll look at all 20 Monsters in order of their popularity. Let's take a look at today's Movie Monster of 2010.
Cinema Verite (found-footage or first person) has been a hot trend over the past few years and Troll Hunters is a stand out example of how effective an approach it can be. The Norwegian film directed by André Øvredal follows a small group of documentary filmmakers into the wilderness as they plan on recording the life of a bear poacher named Hans, but instead run into a pack of trolls. They discover that Hans is in fact a Troll Hunter trying to keep the trolls tucked safely in their sanctuary and killing any who escape. The effects are exceptional and portray a variety of different trolls, including one with two heads and giant troll that towers above the student’s vehicles. The film has been picked up by Magnet for US release sometime in 2011.
